Happy Halloween! Photoshop Costume

Happy Halloween, you guys! I decided to represent my number one fandom this year: design.
I've probably spent more time with photoshop in my lifetime than any other comic, movie or tv show (sorry, Star Trek: TOS!)-- and that's a lot of time! I've been designing since 2001-ish, starting with PS7. That's ten generations of software ago!

I made this toolbar sash and photoshop feather, carried around a turkey baster so I could swatch colors, and wore my Blackmilk hex code leggings! So easy!

It was also a big hit at the ad agency where I work. For more photos, visit my Instagram!

Packing for SDCC!

Long time no post, Party Dress.
After a whirlwind month of business travel and international escapades, it's finally Comic Con-eve!
I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm trying my hardest to prep. It's my first time at SDCC!

Here's what I'll be wearing this weekend:

A rule 63 batman loooooosely based on the art of Bruce Timm, Tribbles, and Golden Age Lois Lane.

My costumes came together with the help of my sister and dad this time around.
Emily made my bat cape, and my dad made my bat belt!

Real photos to come! Check out my twitter and instagram for photos along the way.

Hanging out with Doug Sneyd

I had the pleasure of hanging around with Doug Sneyd, Playboy cartoonist, at Fan Expo Vancouver in April. He is so nice and drew a picture of me! I also met Heidi Hutson, who works with Doug. She was fabulous and sent along this photo of my Tribbles cosplay.

Thanks for being so sweet, Doug and Heidi! <3

Know Your Meme: Futurama, LoTR, Pokemon

These are old, but here I am in a bunch of weird costumes
co-hosting Know Your Meme!
As always, with costume partner in crime, Forest Gibson.

The infamous Bender "Bending" Rodriquez costume.

Some kind of horny elf, in an episode about erotic Fanfiction.

And Pikachu in two episodes of KYM.

These were fun. Episodes for Know Your Meme are on an indefinite hiatus,
but I hope we'll be back someday! <3

Teaser! Magnemite Gijinka: Pokemon

Just a teaser image from my Magnemite gijinka cosplay!
Thank you so much to Seth Tate from Red Envelope Photos for this beautiful image!

Cosplayers, I highly encourage you to connect with Red Envelope! I ran into Seth and his booth at Sakura Con, and he just snapped a few quick shots of me, and they're gorgeous. Plus! He lights beautifully, and publishes TONS of photos on his facebook, and he was super nice!

Dr. Krieger's Virtual Girlfriend : Archer

Sunday of Emerald City Comic Con was all about Archer for Forest Gibson and I.
We cosplayed Dr. Krieger and his hologram girlfriend (who, sadly, does not have a name.)
We were met with "OH MY GOD," "KURIEEEGER-SAAAAAN"
and "hey, are you a vocaloid?" all dayy.

Seeing as Forest speaks conversational German, and I can do a hentai dub voice like nobody's business, i'd say it was a perfect fit.

(a real photoshoot is coming soon with this one, I promise.)

Arpakasso Alpaca

So have you seen those cute little (or rather large) japanese alpaca dolls?
Here I am doing my best impression of one.

With Emily, my sister

With Sonja and Molly

Sakura Con was a blast, photos of my Saturday cosplay will be up soon!

Schoolyard Bully Sailor Moon

This is my last minute closet cosplay of a badass Sailor Moon. I've been following too many (never too many) sailor moon fan art blogs, including Moon Power.
And I really wanted to work in something Sailor Moon for Sakura Con! It was fun to be Usagi for an evening, and to take these photos with Molly McIsaac.

Repost: Cosplay Heroine

So, Internet, I have a new hobby. It's dressing up like fictional characters and going out in public. It's addictive. Like heroine. Get it?

Woah woah woah. I know. It's cool though, trust me.

When I started working on Know Your Meme, I found myself building a lot of props and costumes, and having a really good time doing it. The same went for my two halloween costumes and dressing up for  our Gritty Reboot of Harvest Moon, plus, my sister Emily cosplays. So when Emerald City Comic Con rolled around, Molly McIsaac told me I should dress up. And I didn't need much convincing, but I was terrified, because this was my first time cosplaying at a convention.

I ended up with two costumes, X Men's Shadowcat/Kitty Pryde and Dr. Krieger's Virtual Girlfriend from Archer. Making Assembling the costumes was stressful and rushed and terrible and I burned myself on hot glue, and THEN I WAS TERRIFIED TO WEAR THEM. But I did.
On Saturday I wore Shadowcat, and met up with a whole bunch of other X Men. Being part of a big group was a great way to test the waters, and I had tons of fun running around the convention like a super hero. Or walking. Because my boots were a bit tight.

On Sunday, Forest Gibson and I were Dr. Krieger and his girlfriend. And woah. I did not expect the attention we received in those costumes. We were stopped for photos all day, worked a "step and repeat" for the first time ever, and watched people (including other amazing cosplayers) lose their shit when they saw us. Then, we were posted to Reddit and proceeded to get 17k up votes, and we still keep discovering new photos of the two of us on tumblr. It was insane.

My new friend, artist Dean Tripp
even drew me in my Shadowcat costume! Awesome!

Thanks everyone for the great photos, especially Molly and Vince, and for being so sweet my first time out. I'm addicted to costuming and I will be dressing up again very, very soon.

Repost: Gritty Reboots: Harvest Moon

Before there was Farmville, there was Harvest Moon, one of my favorite video games of all time.
Part dating-sim, part RPG, Harvest Moon was the perfect title for uncool kids like me who thought completing virtual farm chores sounded fun. I remember playing hours upon hours of this game on Playstation and Gameboy (we didn't have an N64, and I have yet to get a DS).
So, what happens if you take this sweet and simple game and make it... grittier? Find out below.

Oh! And did I mention I play all six of the female characters in this video?
